Though it would still be nice if the author could come back and update it for windows10 for that extra silky smoothness. So I don't even really miss having nvsr around anymore. The infinite load screens and additional crashing really sucked dealing with, and whatever patches that microsoft and amd have released for windows10 and my graphics card have reduced the stuttering that I was experiencing by like 80-90% from what it was when I made this post 5 months ago. You might as well remove it entirely if you're going to set bHookCriticalSections = 0, since that change basically disables all of what nvsr does from my experience, so why bother keeping it? I've removed it myself recently for the same reasons you just listed.

I was able to play longer than 15 minutes without the game crashing which was a big deal 5 months ago since new vegas was running like complete garbage on windows 10 without nvsr. It fixes the problem as much as it can be fixed. I took the 450 heapsize from the Fear and Loathing guide, just FYI, so I assume that's a good amount for it and you don't need to have NVSE's heap replacement or Enboost's memory management stuff enabled, but it shouldn't hurt anything if you do. No bHookCriticalSections = 0 or iDefaultMode = 1 needed, so you can get all of the performance boosts out of NVSR even on Windows 10 now. Then set bReplaceHeap = 1 and change the Heap section to look like this: iHeapAlgorithm = 6Īnd voila your crashing should be gone. The NVSR settings from the TTW performance guide are the best settings to use AFAIK, so grab the right settings for your processor from the bottom of the post here:

Most seem to recommend using NVSE's heap replacement over NVSR's these days, but if it fixes the common crashing for Windows 10 users then it'll be worth having it enabled. Since then I think I've narrowed down the setting that actually fixes the crashing to be NVSR's heap replacement. I made a post a few days ago pointing out redmaxblower's New Vegas Stutter Remover settings that also fix the crashing on Win10 from here: If you're still having really horrible stuttering then read on and you can give NVSR a shot. I still recommend doing steps 2,3,4 and 7 from the TTW performance guide, and make absolutely sure that you're using the newest 4GB patcher. Not that New Vegas is exactly stable in the first place lol. Unless you're still having really bad stuttering, I don't recommend using NVSR on Windows 10 at all these days unless you're really desperate, it will definitely make your game way less stable with infinite load screens and additional crashes. Update: Whatever patches/updates that Microsoft and my graphics card manufacturer have released in the past 5 months have reduced the stutter that I was experiencing by about 80% I would say, so New Vegas is running much better on Windows 10 than it was, for me at least.
